Stones

Granite

A very hard, granular, crystalline, igneous rock consisting mainly of quartz, mica, and feldspar and often used as a building stone. Granite is made mostly of quartz and feldspar. It can also contain a number of other minerals, which give each piece a unique appearance. Granite for counter tops comes from quarries. It’s blasted, drilled, or chiseled out of the earth, and mining machines cut it into slabs of the right size.

Marble

Marble Stone was once limestone that achieved metamorphosis from intense pressures and high temperatures within the earth? This altered its crystalline structure and introduced various minerals that manufactured the valuable colors and veining. Marble can be found in the mountainous regions of Canada, Italy, Germany, Spain, America, Greece, and many other countries worldwide.

Quartz

A naturally occurring mineral commonly found in many types of rocks. This includes the igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks you probably learned about in your high school science class. Because quartz is a very hard material, it does not erode like the surrounding rock material. While pure quartz is transparent, many types of quartz contain other inclusions that change the color of the quartz. It is often mined from veins found beneath the surface of the earth.
